CLAS
promotes research through a variety of initiatives addressing
the Latin Americanist community at Berkeley.
CLAS
is home to several active working
groups, comprised of UC
Berkeley faculty, staff, and students who gather regularly
to discuss and debate topics of mutual interest that cross
disciplinary lines. CLAS provides funds which may be used
for photocopying materials, transcription and printing, costs
related to meetings, or visiting speakers.
CLAS
supports the research
of affiliated faculty through
the award of:
• Research
grants
• Travel awards for participation in conferences
abroad
• Curriculum development
grants are also available
for Latin America related courses.
• Working Groups on issues
related to Latin America and the Caribbean.
Affiliated
faculty also give public lectures at the Center and contribute
to the CLAS
Working Papers Series. Their work is regularly
featured in the CLAS Newsletter.
CLAS
promotes graduate
student research through several grant
programs:
• Summer
Field Research grants cover travel expenses so
that graduate students can conduct pre-dissertation investigations
abroad.
• Mini-grants are available
to graduate to help fund research projects.
• Small travel grants are awarded to graduate students
so that they can present papers and gain exposure to a network of researchers
in their field at the Latin American Studies Association
International Congresses.
• CLAS funds graduate student and faculty Working
Groups on issues related to Latin America and the Caribbean.
CLAS
promotes undergraduate
studies through several programs:
• Mini-grants
are available to undergraduate students to fund research
projects.
• Internship and volunteer opportunities at the Center.
• Special courses.
CLAS
also is working on a variety of research programs, reflecting
the current research agenda of the Center, and making the
fruits of that research available online. Please check back
with this page and the website in general for updates on
the progress of this program.
