WTS was founded at UC Berkeley as part of the Institute of Industrial Relations in 1997 to support research and education in the areas of work, technology and society. Technological change is creating important changes in the workplace-- how work is done, how work and technology are managed, and the skills and knowledge required for work. At the same time, technology is affecting society in how we live as well as how we work. WTS will explore these relationships between work and technology and society in order to help business and government leaders develop sound practices and policies.
