Faculty, graduate students, visiting scholars, and Post Doctoral students are eligible for ACR-funded Socrates accounts. Complete the "Application for Computing Services" and fax it to the IST Service Desk, at (510) 643-8245. Accounts are usually set up within 2 working days.

There are two types of accounts on Socrates. There are accounts funded through the Academic Computing Research (ACR) funds and general departmental accounts:
Extend only to accounts used for research or instructional purposes. All other accounts fall under the "General Accounts" category.
Are generally used by faculty using grant funds for research. They also
cover non-academic UC Berkeley departments not covered by Academic Computing
Research.
Must be handled and signed for by the department you are associated
with. The current rates for General Socrates accounts can be found on the
Current Rates
page.
