2008 YEAR-END DRAKE SYMPOSIUM The Drake Symposium has been an established tradition in the Department of
African American Studies. It has allowed cross and interdisciplinary
exchanges between those in African Diaspora Studies and related fields. The
Drake has also provided the space for a wide variety of individuals to come
together to engage in serious dialogue about identity, diaspora, political
economy, citizenship, performance and visual culture, literature, gender and
sexuality, history, nationalism, reparations, slavery, religion, and a host
of other issues of importance.
